We’re happy to say we have the Acer AOD270 netbook in stock. It’s in low supply so it most likely is selling out quickly. We expect to see more stock soon though. This AOD270 is the updated Acer netbook which has the new Intel Atom Cedar Trail processor which provides about 3x the graphic/video power over the previous generation Atom processors. In addition, the Acer AOD270 comes with a HDMI port. With the netbook you’re able to stream 1080p video! Check it out in our store now for more details.

2012 Netbook Buying Guide – What you need to know

Posted in Netbooks at 7:41 am

It’s March and we’re starting to see the updated netbooks in stock. This is great news! The reason? The new Intel Atom processor is not vastly faster in terms of raw power, however it does greatly improve the video capability of netbooks. In other words, those 1080p videos will work! In addition, the new 2012 netbooks with the new Atom processors should (most all do) have an HDMI out port. These hasn’t been the case with previous generation netbooks with Atom processors. The 2012 netbooks with Atom processors will be getting a bit more battery life and will continue to be the cheapest and most versatile portable computing solution out there.

Netbook Solutions and tablets

Posted in Netbooks, NetbookSolutions.ca at 2:44 pm

We’ve been watching the tablet market closely. There is obviously the iPad and that’s a real breakthrough product. We’ve been looking at selling tablets and whether that is something you are interested in having us sell.

In particular, we feel the Asus Transformer tablet is essentially a netbook with a detachable screen. When you combine the Transformer tablet with the keyboard dock you have a full fledged netbook computer. We like the Asus Transformer and it would appear that aside from the iPad 2, the Asus Transformer is second most popular.

We will be adding the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 – A1 model in the coming days. This will be the 16GB model. In addition we will see the Asus Transformer keyboard dock as a separate accessory.

Did you know about the difference between an English keyboard and an English/French keyboard?

Posted in Netbook FAQ at 7:06 am

You know when you go on the internet to research a netbook or laptop? All those nice pretty close up images of keyboard layouts are not precisely what you might get when purchasing in Canada. Let me explain.

Almost all the images and reviews are from US websites who get the English version keyboards. Those English keyboards are not always what you will get in Canada so be careful. The reason this is important is because of the layout design is slightly goofy when you have an English/French keyboard. These will have an awkward looking or “L” shaped enter key. It will affect the overall layout of the keyboard and you won’t get what you expect especially if you are basing your purchase based on photos of a netbook from the US.

At Netbook Solutions, we like the English designed keyboards where “what you see is what you get”. We won’t sell an Engligh/French version keyboard unless you specifically are looking for it. When we list netbooks, you can be assured they are English keyboards.

This is an important consideration because we realize a big part of your decision on a netbook is based on the keyboard. A lot of consumers are completely unaware that different versions of the same netbook are available in Canada. If you are in a store, just look at the key lettering and see if French is shown below the English on a given key. If it does, then you make the decision if you want the different layout keyboard.

There is a great article here with some comments that you might find interesting regarding bilingual keyboards on netbooks and laptops. Check out Peter’s Useful Crap Blog
